What is the best time of day, or week, to post on your social media account for maximum engagement? What are some other ways you can increase engagement with your posts? What's the secret sauce? What are some easy tricks that will help you get more engagement on Instagram without even lifting a finger (besides taking great photos)? Keep reading below.

1. What you should do before posting

Before posting on Instagram, you should think about your audience, find a catchy topic, filter and come up with the best caption. We've expanded on these a bit below;

Find a catchy topic. Choose something that you feel passionate about, but it should also be relatable to the audience of your account.

Filter. Make sure that the photo is clean, well-lit and in focused before posting it on Instagram. Have a scroll through their filters and see if there's one that makes it pop.

Post a good caption. This is the most important thing! You want to have a clear message or if you want to provide an offer then, this is when you do it!

Do your research. Find out what works for you and your followers by analysing other successful posts on Instagram too.

Top Tip:  Try and avoid using low-quality photos in your posts if possible. Instagram knows and the reach of your posts can be hampered.

2. What you should include in your posts

Be sure to keep the post short and concise. Posting just one quality photo can be enough, or you can also share a video of your product being used or tell a story in short captions. Sometimes all it takes is a clever hashtag that resonates with your followers, or a witty comment to make someone laugh.

If you've got a product, make sure to tell the world what it does and why people will love it. Be creative and think outside of the box!

If you've got a service, make sure to let people know all the things they'll gain by using your service. It's very important to have something to show for it!

3. What kind of content is most popular on Instagram

Instagram content can come in many shapes and sizes. One of the most popular types of Instagram content is that which involves food. This type of content is so popular because it evokes a sense of nostalgia for some and provides inspiration for others to try new recipes or dishes out for themselves at home.

Another popular type of Instagram content is that which involves fitness or other types of lifestyle advice. Since the app is used by so many people, it makes sense that there would be a huge market for this type of information as well.

A final example of popular content on Instagram is that which involves artwork. There are many talented artists on Instagram who post their work for the world to see and appreciate. In some cases, this type of content can be commissioned by the individual or the company who posts it.

Top tip: Search using hashtags! The most popular posts for those hashtags show at the top of your screen. Look at what they're saying, the style of post and the type of image they've used. We'll touch more on hashtags shortly.

4. How to get more followers and likes on Instagram

If you're looking to boost your Instagram engagement, there are a few things that you can do. One of the easiest ways to kickstart your growth is by following other accounts in your niche. When Instagram users discover new accounts they like, they'll start following them too.

The second thing that you can do is to use researched hashtags. When Instagram users post an image and use a hashtag for something that interests them or aligns with their interests, some people will scroll through those hashtags and can find your account, if they like what they see, you'll gain a follower or a like.

Lastly, when you take a photo, make sure it's good quality! If it is bad quality then people won't be as interested in clicking to see it and may even be hampered by the Instagram Algorithm.

5. What hashtags are popular on Instagram right now

If you ever want to figure out what hashtags are popular on Instagram, there are a number of sites that can help. One is Hashtagify and our favourite that we use from time to time is Inflact which was formely called Ingramer. They provide a lot of tools and features if you're looking to find what the trending topics are. You can also just search the internet for "trends on Instagram" and get some more ideas!

What are some Instagram hashtags that are popular in my industry?

Your hashtag group is one of the most important groups you can create for your business. As for what's popular, this depends on a lot of things from niche to niche.

So it's likely you'll need to research what hashtags are popular and relevant in your industry by using one of the websites listed previously. You want to vary your hashtags, include popular hashtags and some that aren't so popular as well.

What are some non-popular Instagram hashtags I could use?

This is probably one of our favourite questions as it helps you get creative and think differently about how you can use Instagram as a marketing tool. You've already got your hashtags for your relevant industry, now it's about finding some that you think will work well with what your business is doing. You'll need to use the websites we previously mentioned, as they'll show you the top trending hashtags across every category. You can use this information to find more hashtags that you think might work for your business.

How many hashtags should I have in my Instagram posts?

You can use as many hashtags as you want up to 30! The main thing is to make sure they are relevant to what you're posting about. The general recommendation from Instagram is to have around 30, but it could even be as low as 10 if you think they're relevant and work well in your caption.

Top Tip: Test, test, test. Vary the amount of hashtags you use in your posts. Some people say using less than 10 hashtags works better for them. Create a test using different amounts of hashtags and compare the results.
